I find it helpful to choose a song that sums up my year. I think the song I most turned to for comfort and that summed how I felt was 'I'll Fly Away'. In a purely practical sense it was perfect to sing to lift my spirits when my very small baby was crying after her bath - it was so cold! poor mite!
Then I look back at the hardships and discouragement and trials of the entire year and it really did make me lift my eyes to heaven and look forward to the joy of meeting Jesus and He wiping away my tears - a real advantage to having a tough year was that I yearned so genuinely for meeting Christ and still do.
I hope that the end of 2011 will be 'All creatures of our God and King'.
